![]() Oktoberfest has a notoriety for collecting over 4000 lost items yearly. ![]() I opted for coffee and was overall happy if not for the fact that I lost my designer sunglasses on the way from metro station. That’s right, people bring their own beer to a beer festival to start drinking before sunrise which, actually, isn’t a bad idea since a glass of beer at the grounds will cost you 10-12 euros. The people in line were fully prepared to spend two and a half hours waiting for the gates to open, which means they brought beer. So here I was, standing in line of other crazies who made it their life goal to visit Oktoberfest on the first day and therefore gathered outside Theresienwiese at 6.30 am on Saturday morning. Since the start, Oktoberfest was not celebrated only 24 times, usually during the times of war. The celebration of the royal wedding which included horse racing around the meadow, parades, and drinking beer attracted so many Bavarians that it was decided to make it an annual tradition. The ground was named after Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen whose marriage to Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria was the whole reason for the first ever Oktoberfest in 1810. On the first day of Oktoberfest - which any local will strongly recommend you to skip and for a good reason - I woke up at 5 am to get to Theresienwiese (Theresa’s Meadow), the ground where the celebrations are held. Patrick’s Day in 2018.The start, though, wasn’t as wonderful as one might imagine. So thank you to being part of our community, and helping us create lasting memories and even more successful weekends! And speaking of that - keep your calendars open on St. We think we accomplished that this weekend! We loved seeing your smiling faces - listening to great music, playing rousing rounds of corn hole, and all enjoying beer and cider together!Īs we grow, this idea of community and good times will never change. Our biggest goal for these events, and continually in the future, is to develop a sense of community here in the Marmalade District by bringing in good friends to enjoy the good times life brings. We also couldn’t have done it without Salt City Vodka and RoHa Brewing Project rounding out our great beverage selections! Make sure to keep both these local companies on your mind when you’re out and about - just like Mountain West Cider and Red Rock Brewing! Thank you also to all of our vendors who braved the early afternoon drizzles, and stuck it out for two delightful and sunny fall days! City Weekly, Indulge Eats, Crafty Beer Girls, Living Canvas Henna, 4th West Apartments, Utah Stories, Salt Lake Film Society, Paloma’s Skin Essentials, Giant Taste Skinny Waist, Fizzbloom, and The Green Urban Lunch Box kept up with the flow, and were so essential to the laid back vibe of the weekend. A big THANK YOU to Michelle Moonshine, Crook and The Bluff, Tony Holiday and the Velvetones, The Butchers, Triggers and Slips, and Pixie and the Partygrass Boys. And speaking of live music - all of our guests were AMAZING, keeping our friends dancing and smiling. DJ Justin Godina kicked off both days, and kept the party going in between live music sets. Gerlach’s had delicious brats, and Shylo’s Mobile Cafe never ceased to have a line for it’s fantastic home cookin’! Normal Ice Cream shared it’s decadent ice cream creations, despite the cooler temps on Sunday. The live music kept on jammin’, and the sun kept on shining - paving the way for the highest attended 4th West Oktoberfest to date, and we couldn’t be happier! Our neighbors and friends from all over the valley (and some out-of-staters!) kept coming and coming. The cider, the craft beer, and the cider cocktails were flowing. After much hoping, and crossing of fingers that rain and clouds would give way - they did - and we ended up having quite the perfect fall weekend here at Mountain West Cider! Well, we are STILL amazed at what an incredible 4th West Oktoberfest we had this past weekend.
